For TDS from my salary I have given PAN number of my father instead of mine and my employer has deducted Tax in his name

I work for a MNC in Bangalore, and joined the company in August 2015. While giving the PAN number to the company, by mistake I have given my father's pan card number. The salary for the past 8 months has been credited to me with this PAN number, and not with my own PAN. While filing my income tax returns, is there any way that the salary credited is shown against my PAN number only?

Firstly, your company should have verified the PAN provided by you for TDS purposes. It is the responsibility of your company to ensure proper tax deduction at source. Usually companies ask their employees to submit a copy of their PAN card to verify the PAN provided by the employees. Anyways, While ensuring proper tax deduction at source is definitely the responsibility of the employer, it is your obligation as a tax payer to file the correct income tax returns and pay the correct income tax.

You may be held responsible by the income tax authorities for filing incorrect tax returns. You may be liable not just for the entire tax amount on your income but also interest and penalty payments. Your father may also face harassment because the Income Tax Department may hold your father responsible for not declaring income against the TDS in his IT returns. You should immediately contact the concerned department of your company and inform them of this error. Just like you file your income tax return, your company also files a TDS return. There is a process by which your company can rectify this error by filing a revised TDS return. This is not such an uncommon problem but you should inform your company immediately, so that they can rectify the error promptly before you file your tax returns.
