Glad that you want to invest in good dividend paying equity mutual funds. We are also glad to note that you already have an idea that equity investing comes with risk. To know more about equity funds giving good dividends, please read this https://www.advisorkhoj.com/articles/Mutual-Funds/Top-Dividend-Paying-Large-Cap-Equity-Mutual-Funds-in-the-last-5-years and https://www.advisorkhoj.com/articles/Mutual-Funds/Top-Mutual-Fund-Dividend-Plans-in-the-last-5-years

However, since you will be retiring next year, our suggestion would be to invest in balanced funds for four reasons – 1) Balanced funds are best suited for moderate to moderately high risk takers 2) Dividends and long term capital gains from balanced funds are tax free 3) Our research shows that in the long run the returns of balanced funds versus large cap equity funds are almost same 4) There are balanced funds which have tailored their dividend payments in such a way that it can supplement regular returns on monthly or quarterly basis.
